The Secret Annex was quiet but the big clock outside that ticked every 15 minutes made a sharp ringing noise and the creaky, unstable wooden floor boards shrieked under your feet. Since the floor boards shrieked with every step, we couldn’t go to the bathroom and had to stay completely still and silent so that we wouldn’t be discovered. We all had different hiding spots in different rooms and I always hid in the corner by myself in the dark and held my breath as I heard screaming and gunshots from below. I told myself to stay quiet no matter what happens and I covered my mouth from breathing too fast.  I could smell the blood faintly drifting in the air, I tugged on my clothes tightly hoping the Germans would leave while gripping my red necklace that resembles a lucky charm and hoped that me and my family will be fortunate enough to survive. The red necklace feels cold like the air in the room. The secret annex was quite basic and very cramped, the air smelled old like dust that would make you sneeze and the food was grey beans but it was enough to survive. My heart drops as soon as I hear the rustling noises that come from outside the annex because it reminds me of when the Germans are raiding our homes. Secretly when I have a peek outside the attic window, the streets are quiet but I see people each day being taken away by the Germans, getting kicked from behind and walking to this mysterious black van, you can hear the sound of the van’s door slam loudly, after that you never see those people again, the window is clear to see through but on rainy days it’s blurry, the sound of the hard rain hitting the roof reminds me of fast, shooting bullets. I know what happens to those people and I live in fear that might happen to us, one by one taken away.

In this week in LS2 we were learning about Anne Frank story about the secret annex and we were working with partner and I was working with Rayne and this is our work.
